Skipping Dinner??? Good or Bad??

So here is my question, is it okay to skip dinner a few times a week?

Right now I’m on the Weight Watcher points plan.  I eat about 27 points a day.  Now today for example, I already used up all my points and it’s only 3:30pm.  Is it okay to skip dinner altogether tonight?  Or is it a bad idea.

I realize the importance of each meal.  But most experts stress the importance of Breakfast, lunch and snacks as a never miss kinda thing.  If we get in all our calories and nutrients in for the day before 4pm, is it safe to skip out on dinner?  Maybe just drink H2O and have a peice of fruit?  I wonder…

Let me know what you think…….

Hmmmm, this is a great question.
Only problem is, if you say, stop eating at 4pm and with sleep and all, you don’t eat again until 7 or 8am the next day, your body would have gone without food for 15 or 16 hours. I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Now, my problem is I love dinner and I love eating my last meal. So I always save my calories for this meal. Yummy. I couldn’t imagine not eating dinner a few times a week.

I would suggest taking a high calorie day today - eat a very light lunch that is packed with protein and some veggies.

Then tomorrow, you can adjust your WW points so you have enough for dinner. Then you’ll be on track. But I’m not on the WW plan so I don’t know what the rules and regulations are when it comes to point distribution.

    Just my 2 cents.

Edit - I meant, eat a very light dinner that is packed with protein and some veggies.

    Sorry, my bad.

I would also worry that if you haven’t eaten for 15 or 16 hours then you might eat too much for breakfast and use up too many points at one meal and then getting into that cycle would probably do more harm then good.

I’m not on Weight Watchers but I would think no it’s not ok to miss dinner occasionally. But if if it’s just for tonight and you are not hungry then maybe it’s ok. But, if you get hungry then I think you need to eat something healthy and then watch your points better tomorrow.

generally speaking i would only miss dinner if you are going to bed by like 8pm. Otherwise you could set yourself up for a big case of the munchies later in the evening. If you find you’ve eaten too much then go with that fruit and veggie meal, but have something. Most experts seem to go for the eat 5-7 small meals a day. Now, i will tell you that when i did a meditation retreat for 10 days we actually did not have dinner. After 2pm i think it was we had nothing. But, we did go to bed by 8 and were up at 4am every day…also, not exerting much physical energy.

hey i was on weightwatchers and did the 27 points but i didnt last long with counting points! I just ate regular meals and rode my bike around the block (4 miles to 10miles depending on what kinda day it is). The whole thing with weight watchers is portions! I used to have 2 plates of dinner when i was growing up..always went back for those mashed potatoes but now sometimes i cant even finish a meal and sometimes 1 plate is good enough. The key is to eat your 3 meals a day and inbetween eat 3 snacks. and when I say snacks, Im talking fruit! I have a peach or grapes before bed and i feel that helps. Another good thing i heard is Dark chocolate, I get those dove Drk. Choco. Chunks from the store and only 1 a day to keep your siroton levels right. So in the afternoon ill take one chunk and you never bite chocolate so it just melts in my mouth. Just make sure you eat your regular 3 meals and have a piece of fruit or yogurt inbetween. It will work, and make sure you excersize!

I think that it is not okay to miss dinner on a regular basis. Maybe see what you are eating during the day and aim for more low points foods so you can have dinner. Lots of times I have a veggie salad with a chicken breast and fat free dressing….very low points. You do have those 35 flex points you could use to accomodate dinner tonight.

You can eat a Big salad with lots of cucumbers and greens……. no points! Just a thought. I would eat something!
